New Godzilla Snacks Album Out Now!

After a 3 to 4 year delay, we finally released our new album last week.  Life events and world events somehow got the best of us and we had to keep shelving this.  Big thanks to Jan Bart in the Netherlands and Hercules in Cyprus, and my usual other band mates Jon, Roque and Brain for the extra help. Hopefully the next album won't take us as long.

Godzilla Snacks - Cave Dwellers out today and other musical projects

Hi!  Three things!

#1 The band and I have a new EP out today. We did this 100% by ourselves over the last year. I'm not sure what it is, or if it's good, but we tried.  Big thanks to Jan Bart Leeuw for playing Harmonium and Clavinet, and Jon Bates for a few Screams. https://godzillasnacks.bandcamp.com/album/cave-dwellers

#2 The punk recording project I've been (“producing?”) Born Shit Stirrers, is haphazardly deciding to become a live act. So I'll be playing guitar with those a-holes April 18th. A fight might start.

#3 I'm honored to have been asked to play guitar in the backup band for Don Matsuo of Zoobombs in Fukuoka in May. Crazy, considering it was one of my wife's favorite Japanese bands of the 90's. It's been a while just being a guitar player and I'm looking forward to the rehearsals. Even though I suck at Japanese.

Alright.  That's all for now.

Continuing in our tradition as the "most hated band in Fukuoka"

Continuing in our tradition as the "most hated band in Fukuoka." We're going in through the back door. Ironically we're playing at a place that won't let us play there. Jon's last Trade Support. There have been some good times there. But, the trade part has dwindled. People used to bring fresh veggies, records, clothes, tacos.... Well, who likes cigarette soaked veggies anyways? Place smells like death. Ok, gotta stop being angry and negative. Just another club owner acting dumb in a little podunk part of the world.  Carry no.

White Mystery, Don Matsuo / Zoobombs, Japan Tour

This will be fun.  I enjoyed the last time I saw Don Matsuo, and I hope we can provide some hospitality to White Mystery, coming all the way from the US.  Gigi is a small place so if you're around get there early.  We (Godzilla Snacks) will be there to kick things off.  Probably around 7pm.

Freaks!!! 9/21 and Marcus 10/03

Holy fuck! The Utero show was a fucking blast.  A lot of great bands and people there.  I was blown away by Chainsaw TV, and Folk Enough was nice enough to play "Momma Shit" for me.  There was even this piece of insanity I got to play bass for at the end of the night.

We're (Godzilla Snacks) starting with a new bassist (Nobuto) in November, for a potentially big show.  Until then, next weekend, Oct 3rd, we'll be in Marcus Kurosaki as a two-piece: Godzilla Snacks Lite.

Again tons of thanks to Inuoe-san, who organized the event last week.  12 hours, 14 bands, and it was pulled off.   Hope to do it again soon.

Upcoming Live Schedule

A busy summer, but I'm thankful I have anywhere to play considering my constant blowups about the situation here. Going to be back in Portland in August.  Salvador reunion?  A BIG maybe, but a maybe.  I've been practicing.  Godzilla Snacks has a show July 26th in Kurosaki, and we're going to play with Inoue  from Folk Enough, who is putting on an all-day festival Sept 21st at Utero.  Cheap and fun.  Looking forward to it. Folk Enough has played with some great bands like Sebadoh.  Also, I started playing bass in a band called "The MSGs".  We played a show last month, you can check that out here:
Solo acoustic show coming up as well.  Might play everything from Roky Erickson to Willie Nelson, and some originals I haven't recorded yet.   Still experimenting with live streaming.  So some of these shows might go live via the internet.  We'll see.  Can't wait to see everyone back in Portland!

2015

2015.  Crazy.  Looking forward to playing some more shows and writing more music.  A very nice lady over at skullsonshirts wrote some very kind words about my former band mates last band Sioux.  She also had some nice words about Salvador.  Reunion?  I wish.  Portland is still being push back for me.  Until then I've got some shows with the band here.  Got a new bass player that I'm excited about.  The next show is at Cavern Beat Sunday, Jan. 18th.

Yojigen Show 10/14 (Public Space 四次元)

A good night had by all. I genuinely loved all the bands that played this last Tuesday at Yojigen.  I hope to have more nights like this soon, and I'm grateful to have the chance to play music in Japan or anywhere.  Check out The Whys (all girl surf rock group) and The Routes (garage rock)  Here's some video from a few bands and us.

Some video from Sept. 27th @Cavern Beat

Hell of a night.  I met a lot of nice people, and I'm grateful for the good turnout.  Hope we didn't stink up the place too much.  We did some new stuff that still might need work.  Looking forward to the next one!  Surf Coasters, The Whys, The Routes!

*Update:  The Surf Coasters had to back out of the gig due to the incoming typhoon.  The show however will still go on.

The Surf Coasters

*Update:  The Surf Coasters had to back out of the gig due to the incoming typhoon.  The show however will still go on.

An all surf rock night!  Well, minus us.  I guess we have about a 10 second break down in one song that somewhat resembles surf rock.   Well, we're excite to play what so many great bands.  We love the Whys and the Routes.  The Surf Coasters are new to me, however I'm a fan after watching some killer shows off youtube.  They tend to make to the West Coast of the States fairly often it seems, so check them out if they come to your town.

Tuesday, October 14th @ 四次元(Public Space Yojigen).  Doors at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.  2000 yen with a free drink to get in.  With: The Surf Coasters, The Whys, The Routes, Godzilla Snacks (us), and The Paralyz

Solo-ish Show

I'm starting to love these.  I play what I want and there are few preconceptions or complaints.  That's one of the thing I  like about Japan.  No know-it -all music snobs who ruin the experience.  I just want to play a few songs I enjoy and leave it at that.  Well, with that said, I love my band.  They don't judge me and they are way into just having fun and playing music.  Man...., I feel like we lost that a bit back home.  Fuck off.  Just take things for what they are.  Well, I should have a few vocal guests for this one.  I hope it goes over well.  There might be a noise section or two.    Oct. 4th @ Gigi

International Band Night @Cavern Beat

We get to play with the Routes again.  The 9 piece ukulele group which should be interesting.   This one should be fun.  Lots of nice people helped put this one together, so if you're in my time-zone, come check it out.  At the Cavern Beat.  We got a small write up in a local magazine here as well: http://fukuoka-now.com/event/international-band-night-2014/

We have a big show in the works for October.  With The Surf Coasters

Thanks from Godzilla Snacks, more shows to come, the Future

The "Kill Your Fucking Boss" event at Graf was a lot of fun.  Probably the most fun I've had at a show since Portland.  It was gratifying to play for so many people who love music and were willing to come out on a Wednesday night.  The Routes were great, Pussy Strunk was fun, and Pear of the West did a laid back acoustic show.  We didn't have our ovaries that night.  Maybe she'll play some future shows.  Thanks to Chris for the photos.

Speaking of the future.  Yes Portland, I'm coming.  Just waiting on lots of paperwork and getting my life together enough to move it.  Scary.  Until then, I have a not-so-laid-back acoustic show in two weeks at Gigi.  I'll being playing a song for Josh.    More shows on the way hopefully.

@Graf 「KILL YOUR FUCKING BOSS #11」

This should be a good show.  A bargain by Japan standards.  A good show and a drink for $10 isn't band.  The bands are pretty good too.  I've seen The Routes a few times and have to say they're one of the better bands in the area.  I guess some of the records have been mastered back home in Portland.  We're playing with a new/old bass player.  We're missing our ovaries.  I suppose no one knows us, so most of the songs will be new to you, and maybe even us.
